Why Massage?
You
may be a tremendously active person, but do you ever
take the time to stop and rest. Eventually the stress
build-up, anxiety and even depression
caused by modern living, will have a detrimental effect
on your health and general sense of well-being.
You may become less likely to work effectively,
unable to make important decisions or simply
unable to relax at home with your friends and
family.
Take
the time out for a professional massage.
This complementary therapy, enjoyed by millions
of people everyday, will help you to understand the
importance of relaxation, you may well instantly
feel the benefits, positivity, spiritual enhancement
and even simply the experience of being kind to yourself.
Many corporate businesses are now discovering
the benefits of offering massage sessions within
the workplace. A small financial investment by companies
benefits not only the employees but also the management
by increasing effectiveness throughout the workplace
as a whole.
Enjoy a massage daily, weekly or monthly. Put yourself
in a better frame of mind to cope with life's difficulties,
keep on top of the pressures that effect your daily
working day.

The Physical Benefits of Massage Therapy
The immediate benefit
to any client of massage therapy is to produce a feeling
of relaxation and release. This is a combination
of both reflex and mechanical response to the massage.
Reflex being a relief of tension and stress, sometimes
leading to a reduction in pain by making gentle
physical contact with the patient and mechanical being
the actual physical effect caused by firm massage movements.
As
well as producing a relaxed feeling, massage applied
with gentle vigour can equally stimulate the body
and mind, i.e. one of the benefits of Indian Head
Massage. A vigorous massage can also assist the athlete
preparing for a sporting event by rapidly increasing
the blood supply and generally 'waking up' the
muscle for activity.
Massage
can increase the circulation of blood around
the body and improve the number of red blood cells and
haemoglobin present in the blood.
Another
important effect of massage is to encourage the flow
of lymph. Lymph is the fluid that assists in the
removal of waste products from around the body's systems,
and massaging areas of injuries can encourage the
body's healing.
Massage
can also assist in retaining tone in muscles
that may have wasted through under use, particularly
after an injury. It can assist digestion through
abdominal massage and certainly produce a feeling of
well-being and contentment. Massage is frequently
used to assist in the treatment of anxious and depressed
patients, both acute and chronic.

Indian Head Massage
For
1000s of years massage, has been an integral part of
family life on the Indian sub continent, with massage
of the head as an essential element as the rest
of the body. Until the introduction of an adapted form
of Indian style massage to the UK in the 70's the head
had been almost entirely neglected in western massage.
Indian Head Massage is a powerful holistic therapy
helping in the relief of stress and tension and engendering
calm and tranquillity. It can be performed with the
client fully dressed and does not require creams or
oils
making it highly suitable for on-site massage.
Indian Head Massage includes massage of the neck,
shoulders and arms and has many benefits - from the
obvious release of anxiety and stress, to the
relief of headaches, eye strain and other
physical ailments that can effect the upper part of
the body to the increased levels of alertness and concentration
which makes this an ideal therapy for the work place
and for performers in particular.
The length of treatment can vary from 20 minutes
to 1 hour.

Your Massage
When receiving a massage, you
should be as comfortable as possible, and therefore
I offer a home visit service within the Manchester
area. Clients can enjoy their massage, and when complete,
they remain in a perfectly relaxed state, without the
inconvenience of re-dressing and travelling back home. If
you would rather not book a Home Visit, I can offer massage
facilities at my own home in North Manchester should you so
wish.
The Tools of the Trade!
When Personal Home Visits are booked
I bring all required equipment.
Massage bench
Towels (for warmth and to keep the client fully covered
at all times, apart from areas being massaged)
Massage oils and essential oils (if required)
Soothing music (again if required).

an hour and an hour and a half.
Spend time concentrating on particularly stressed

On-site Corporate Massage
It
is now not unusual for masseurs to be found working
in the office environment during lunch breaks
or some such suitable time, providing 10 or 15 minute
massage sessions in the form of a back rub or Indian
Head Massage, to help relax and revitalise staff.
The corporate environment is proving to be increasingly
stressful, and managers are finding that members
of staff can be much happier and efficient after
receiving a treatment.
Indian Head massage or a back rub is ideal for the office
space, as it is performed without use of oils or the
removal of clothing.
Special rates are available for on-site massage
- please contact me for further details.

Theatre Massage
I appreciate the particular
stresses and pressures that actors can experience
during rehearsals and performances and understand their
need for relaxation, not just for their own mental
well-being, but also for the benefit of the body
and the voice. Indian Head Massage is particularly
good for relaxing and revitalising the upper
part of the body prior to a performance.
I now
undertake site visits to The Royal Exchange Theatre
in Manchester and provide massages to artistes
and staff prior to performances or during a run. I am
available to visit individual actors in a quiet
space at the theatre or at their digs or groups on site.

The History of Massage?
Massage is a varied
art/science, with numerous branches from a host of different
cultures and eras going as far back to China approximately
3000 years BC.
Massage has been used for both physical
and mental healing and is deeply entrenched in many
of the world's religions and cultures.
The West's increasing use of massage can
be seen in the treatment of physically injuries and
assisting in convalescence - often being used along
side and complementing standard medical practices.
It was a Swedish Professor, Peter Henry
Ling, in the early 19th century who placed massage,
in the West, on a scientific level and established the
first school for massage in Stockholm - hence the name
"Swedish massage".
Massage is now used in a huge variety of
ways; the mental and physical benefits are now beginning
to be explored, understood and appreciated by medical
practitioners and researchers, as well as by those using
it for a more spiritual experience and for stress relief.
